HARRISBURG – Thirty-one fire and emergency medical services (EMS) companies in the 117th Legislative District were awarded nearly $390,000 in funding support through the 2022-23 Pennsylvania Fire Company and Emergency Medical Service Grant Program, Rep. Mike Cabell (R-Luzerne) announced today. Statewide, 2,336 applicants shared in more than $31 million.

“Our local emergency responders do such an amazing job providing their life-saving services to communities large and small, and we are grateful for their dedication,” Cabell said. “These state grants help to keep them in operation, and I am pleased to see that many fire and EMS companies continue to apply for this annual financial support.” 

Following is a list of local organizations that received grants and the amount of the awards:
Back Mountain Regional Fire & EMS Inc. (fire) – $26,063.
Back Mountain Regional Fire & EMS Inc. (EMS) – $20,000.
Dennison Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 – $12,107.
Dorrance Township Volunteer Fire Department (fire) – 13,335. 
Dorrance Township Volunteer Fire Department (EMS) – $10,000.
Fairmount Township Volunteer Fire & Ambulance Company (fire) – $12,107.
Fairmount Township Volunteer Fire & Ambulance Company (EMS) – $10,000.
Fearnots Volunteer Fire Company – $13,089.
Freeland Fire Department – $15,000. 
Freeland Northside Community Ambulance Association – $10,000.
Hobbie Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 (fire) – $12,598.
Hobbie Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 (EMS) – $10,000.
Jonathan R. Davis Volunteer Fire Department – $11,861.
Lake Silkworth Volunteer Fire Company – $11,861.
Mocanaqua Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 Inc. – $12,352.
Nescopeck Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 – $12,352.
Nuangola Volunteer Fire Company – $11,861.
Nuremberg Weston Volunteer Fire Company – $13,580.
Pond Hill-Lily Lake Ambulance Association – $10,000.
Pond Hill-Lily Lake Volunteer Fire Company – $12,107.
Salem Township Volunteer Fire Company – $13,580.
Shickshinny Volunteer Ambulance Association Inc. – $10,000.
Slocum Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 – $12,107.
Sugarloaf Fire Company (fire) – $12,352.
Sugarloaf Fire Company (EMS) – $10,000.
Sweet Valley Ambulance Association – $10,000.
Sweet Valley Volunteer Fire Company - $14,563.
Valley Regional Fire & Rescue Inc. (fire) – $13,826.
Valley Regional Fire & Rescue Inc. (EMS) – $10,000.
White Haven Fire Company No. 1 – $12,598.
White Haven Rescue Unit Inc. – $10,000. 

Projects and programs eligible for funding include facility upgrades, equipment purchases, debt reduction, training and certification, education and public outreach, and recruitment and retention efforts. Additionally, fire companies were permitted to apply for savings accounts for the purpose of new facility construction. 

The ongoing funding program was created by the General Assembly. All grants are generated from slot machine gaming proceeds, and not General Fund tax revenue. 

The program is administered by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency with the application process handled through the Office of the State Fire Commissioner (OSFC). The funding amounts are contingent on the recipients filing their grant agreements with OSFC.
