HARRISBURG – Rep. Mike Cabell (R-Luzerne) announced the awarding of more than $1.75 million in state funding for a variety of municipal projects and purchases in the 117th Legislative District. Cabell played a role in securing the 16 Local Share Account (LSA) grants.
“I frequently hear about the condition of our roads from my constituents, so I know infrastructure is a very important issue. Much of the money awarded to these municipalities is going to their road departments, giving them the financial resources needed to provide smooth travels to area drivers for years to come,” said Cabell. “Other grants will go toward community enhancement through blight remediation, and for police purchases to improve public safety. I am also especially enthusiastic about the allocation for the LaRock Field complex in Sugarloaf Township.”
The local grants include:
• Back Mountain Community Partnership – $300,000 to purchase road maintenance equipment.
• Butler Township – $51,978 to purchase police equipment.
• Dallas Borough – $75,000 to purchase a skid steer and attachments.
• Fairmount Township – $100,000 for purchase of a road grader.
• Foster Township – $209,445 for Centre Street Business District Redevelopment Project.
• Harveys Lake Borough – $100,000 for construction of a pole barn.
• Hunlock Township – $73,824 for construction of a storage dome.
• Nescopeck Borough – $7,977 for borough building porch renovation project.
• Nescopeck Borough – $18,490 for borough building roof renovation project.
• Nuangola Borough – $83,400 to replace storm water culverts on North End Road.
• Ross Township – $55,000 to purchase a roller and trailer.
• Salem Township – $95,560 to purchase two police vehicles.
• Shickshinny Borough – $100,852 for demolition of two blighted properties.
• Slocum Township – $110,000 for Slocum Volunteer Fire Company fire station project.
• Sugarloaf Township – $250,452 for LaRock Recreation Field improvement project.
• Union Township – $125,000 for road-paving project.
“I was happy to join Sens. Dave Argall, Lisa Baker and Lynda Schlegel Culver in advocating on behalf of these grant applications,” Cabell added.
The grants were approved and awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, which was established as an independent agency that holds fiduciary responsibility over the funding of programs and investments in Pennsylvania’s economic growth. LSA grants are derived from gaming revenues.
