HARRISBURG – Comcast Cable Communications LLC today was awarded nearly $4.35 million in federal funding for broadband expansion projects in Luzerne County, according to Rep. Mike Cabell (R-Luzerne).

“Reliable high-speed broadband service has become so critical in our daily lives,” said Cabell. “These expansion projects are going to impact folks in unserved and underserved areas of the county who have been waiting years for internet connection. I am pleased to see these projects finally get underway.”

The funding was made available through the state’s Broadband Infrastructure Program (BIP) and approved at a meeting of the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority in Harrisburg.

The authority awarded more than $204 million for 53 broadband expansion projects statewide. BIP targets locations that do not currently have access to 25/3 Mbps reliable service. The competitive grant program funds extensions of existing last-mile cable modem and fiber-to-the-premise broadband networks, and large-scale regional projects that can transform broadband availability by serving large numbers of eligible addresses.
